Thekla, Jonathan Blow, and the source designers
Checked 14 October 2026. Who made it, which games it sits on, and what is not a published line count.
What I checked
I used the official contributor list and the Wikipedia development summary. The line-count search has no official number, so I omit it. The Jai claim is Wikipedia's, and I label it that way.

Studio and director
Thekla, Inc. developed the game. Jonathan Blow directed it. The PlayStation Blog described a team of about 20 people and a development stretch of nearly ten years. Braid shipped in 2008 and The Witness in 2016.
Wikipedia says the game is written in Jai, Blow's language, and that he has talked about releasing the language and engine after the game. I do not have a line count. A sales total was not on the pages I used.
Design contributors
Alan Hazelden (Skipping Stones, Mirror Isles), Sean Barrett (PROMESST), and Jonah Ostroff (Heroes of Sokoban) are the source authors the worlds point at. The official site also names Patrick Traynor, Zach Polansky, and Marc ten Bosch.
Wikipedia records that in December 2025 Hazelden publicly disagreed with Blow and said he would direct revenue from the game toward other creators, and that a demo credits omission was later promised a fix. That is a reported dispute, not a puzzle fact.
Questions
What language is it written in?
Wikipedia says Jai. Thekla has not posted a line count.
How is it connected to The Witness?
Same director and studio. It is not a sequel. The puzzle rules are a different set.
